Invisible Mannequin Photo Editing

Printed short-sleeve dress in invisible mannequin presentation

Mannequin removal and garment detail cleanup for clean, realistic and premium fashion product presentation.

Invisible mannequin editing — also known as ghost mannequin editing — is a post-production technique used for apparel photography. A garment is shot on a mannequin, and the mannequin is edited out so the finished image shows the garment as if it were being worn, with no mannequin visible.

The portfolio shows dresses, skirts, knitwear, tailoring, shorts and trousers, including a garment photographed on a model and rebuilt as a standalone invisible-mannequin image, and a multi-colourway set kept consistent.

What this can include

  • Mannequin removal
  • Garment isolation
  • Interior garment areas
  • Collar and neckline areas
  • Sleeves
  • Hems
  • Garment edges
  • Shape consistency
  • Visible-distraction cleanup
  • Colour and tonal consistency

The garment’s natural construction, drape and proportions are kept. Inside areas such as the back neck are rebuilt from your inside shots wherever they are supplied, so labels, linings and seams look as they really are.

Who this is for

Apparel and fashion brands, retailers and product photographers who need clean, consistent garment images for online stores and catalogues — for a single product or a full collection shot on the same mannequin set-up.

How the process works

  1. Send your images, a short brief and any references, along with your delivery requirements.
  2. PIX ALTER reviews the images and brief and confirms a realistic timeline and price for that specific project.
  3. The images are retouched to the agreed brief, keeping the character of the original photography.
  4. Finished files are delivered in the agreed format.

The questions below set out which shots to take. Keeping the camera position, lens and lighting the same across all shots of a garment gives the cleanest result. Turnaround, file formats and revisions are covered in the studio FAQ.

Questions about
this service.

What is an invisible mannequin?
An invisible mannequin (or ghost mannequin) image shows a garment as if it were being worn, with the mannequin it was actually photographed on removed in post-production.
Is invisible mannequin the same as ghost mannequin?
Yes, the two terms are used interchangeably for the same technique.
What images are needed for ghost mannequin editing?
For the best results, send a clear front view of the garment on the mannequin, with the mannequin’s hands, arms or other parts positioned away from the garment wherever possible. An inside neck or collar shot is strongly recommended, while a back view should be provided when the back of the garment will be displayed. For open garments or areas where the inside is visible, additional reference shots may also be useful. We can reconstruct certain areas when reference shots are unavailable, but actual inside and back shots generally help us preserve the garment’s natural construction, shape and details.
Can the visible mannequin be removed from apparel photography?
Yes, mannequin removal is the core of this service, along with garment isolation and edge, collar, sleeve and hem cleanup.
